Chapter Vice-President

Hello and welcome to the website of the Sigma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to serve as the Vice President of the Sigma Omega Chapter. In this role, I have the honor of overseeing the execution of our 2018-2022 International Program: “Exemplifying Excellence through Sustainable Service” as outlined by our International President, Dr. Glenda Baskin Glover.

Programs are the heart of Alpha Kappa Alpha and as such, enable our members to provide service to our local communities and globally.  Our program theme: “Exemplifying Excellence through Sustainable Service” consists of the following five program targets:

Target 1: HBCU for Life, a Call to ActionPrimary Focus: to increase the sustainability of historically black colleges and universities by providing insight about these learning institutions to include endowment opportunities.

Signature Program: #CAP.  CAP stands for College Admission Process. Primary Focus: provide assistance to students in navigating the college enrollment process along with insight on scholarships.

Target 2: Women’s Healthcare and Wellness.  Primary Focus: raising community awareness about critical health care issues i.e. breast cancer and heart health that disproportionately impact African American women and women in under-served communities to include providing insight on vital screening services.  Nutrition & Wellness along with Care for Caregivers are also aspects of Target 2.

Target 3: Building Your Economic Legacy.  Primary Focus: provide insight and education on financial planning, asset accumulation and wealth building.

Target 4: The Arts!  Primary Focus:  arts enrichment and culture with an emphasis on the Harlem Renaissance and the Black Arts Movement.

Target 5: Global Impact.  Primary Focus: through partnerships with worldwide organizations such as Soles 4 Soles and Lions Club International, shoes as well as eye-glasses are collected and provided to those in need.  We also make pillow case dresses as well as shirts for boys that are distributed to Haitian children.
